Awesome Trail Cam!!

I purchased this trail cam several months ago and wanted to do a review immediately after I received it because it was so easy to set up, however, I wanted to give it some time to be able to leave an honest review. The cam was purchased so I could investigate critter activity I was having in my yard at night and potentially deter the critters from damaging a shed that was being chewed up.First thing first, I’m not very tech savvy but this cam was very easy to get dialed in. No problems at all. The cam takes very clear photos and I find the night vision to be very nice. So far, I’ve photographed a few raccoon’s that were attempting to make my shed their new home. Problem solved and damage deterred. The WiFi is awesome as well.Another thing to note, this cam was mounted and was rained on for the last few months and no issues arose. The cam has no issues with waterproofing. The cam is so nice, I’ll be taking it to my cabin in the woods in hopes of getting pictures of local bears in the area. All in all, you can’t beat this cam for the price. Very easy interface to figure out and overall very easy to use….even for those that are challenged with electronic gadgets. It takes clear pics and it’s actually turned into a bit of a hobby by photographing wildlife. If you need a reliable and easy to use cam at a good price point….then buy this unit. You won’t be disappointed.

Excellent video quality yet very disappointed overall

I thought I would write a detailed review based on my own experiences to help others understand the issues with this camera. First let me say, the video quality itself was excellent. This is where my positive comments end though. The battery compartment does not stay reliably closed because of the very small clasps that were designed to keep the spring loaded cartridge in place. I was able to put a screw with a washer where the tripod attachment mounts directly under the battery compartment that would keep the cartridge in place as a fix.So, off I go to mount my new camera using the green woven strap intended for use to mounting to a tree. While securing the camera with this strap, the cheap plastic buckle breaks completely off. I don't let that deter me as I went and tied the strap with a knot instead. The very cheap batteries that came with the camera were only at 80%. The instruction manual states that certain camera features fail to operate when the batteries fall below 70%. Guess what? The batteries fall to 70% before I can get the camera fully set up so, I have to replace the batteries with new ones of my own before I even get the camera installed.Ok, I'm anxious to capture something on my new camera. I set it up to only take photos and the camera's motion sensor triggers several times over the next few days. Unfortunately, the motion sensor and the camera lens are not the same so, the camera captures photos with nothing on them each and every time. I know this because I then configured the camera to capture 10s of video along with taking photos. Photos continue to capture nothing yet the video captures squirrels, raccoons, large crows, etc.I learn this camera is NOT WiFi compatible with your home network in any way. The manual itself states this. The manufacturer uses semantics using the word "WiFi" when it's wireless connection method is only to a phone using the TrailCamGo app using BlueTooth. The "WiFi" term is used loosely to lead one to believe it can be connected to a home wifi network when actually, "WiFi" is being referenced for the wireless connection method to a phone via BlueTooth. Go figure! For some reason - photos will not download to my phone but the videos would. I continued to get "please wait" errors for the photos that never would download. Not a big deal though when the camera's photo aren't actually capturing what the motion sensor is triggering on.Issues don't stop here. Several days later, some of the video files that were originally downloading to my phone via the app would no longer download yet some would. Some of the video files would stop playing only a few seconds into playing while others were ok. I formatted the SD card and replaced the batteries yet this new problem continued. I even reloaded the app and reinstalled the camera. The same issue continued.I now have to remove the SD card every time and load them on my desktop to see all the files which display fine when accessing the SD card direct. So, if you want a camera that "sometimes" takes excellent quality videos, never captures photos when the motion sensor is activated that, that comes with useless batteries that cannot be reliably kept in place in their battery compartment with a mounting method that broke 1st use that claims to be "WiFi" but is not and that quits reliably downloading files to your phone - this is the camera for you.

Excellent Performing Trail Cam That Is Raccoon Resistant

I did quite a bit of research before deciding on this KJK trail cam. I had 5 or 6 in my saved list that I kept comparing and ultimately, I decided the KJK provided me with the most useful features and would provide the best photos and video. After several months I can report that even this 70+ year old, non-techy guy who really dislikes using apps, has found the KJK app easy to use and one the first things I look at when I get up mornings when the cam is set up. The WiFi signal is great, and the cam is about 40-45 feet away.I had some questions that I could not find answered in the very detailed manual or on the company's website, so I contacted KJK's tech support. They responded in less than 24 hours and provide a detailed list of procedures that helped me get started.Be sure to measure the distance to your target area and do not rely on your judgment. I found out that what I thought was only 20-25 feet was actually 45 feet. Once I re-positioned the cam and measured the distance, it was getting triggered as it should. My subject refers to the cam being raccoon resistant because last week 4 raccoons showed up, the cam triggered, and photos/video showed whiskers and the video can record sound and you could hear the raccoon clawing or biting the camera housing. I checked the housing and could not find any damage to it or the lenses. I know it was one of the raccoons because he got down and moved to where the others were eating. We have not noted any moisture or other weather-related issues during our March thru July, off and on use of the cam, neither during the rainy cold Spring, or any issues relating to the high temperatures we have been having recently. Also, in regards to battery life, the manufacturer recommends changing them out when they show 80% or less. My most recent experience has been that even though the batteries show 80%, the cam is still triggering during the hours I have it set for, which is another great featured. Instead of having the cam on 24/7, you can set a time for the cam to trigger. For us, the batteries seem to restore some of their charge during the off time. If our cam was set to trigger 24/7, the batteries would need changing way too often. The manufacturer does recommend rechargeable batteries if you are going to have the cam on 24/7.The main reason for buying the cam was to capture photos/videos of the deer we have coming in on a regular basis. My Wife puts seed in her bird feeder and fills a plastic tub up with fresh water for birds, squirrels and chipmunks to feast on. However, earlier this year, the feeder was knocked to the ground and all the seed eaten and we found deer prints around the bird feeder area. My Wife began shining a flashlight out the window late at night and finally spotted one deer, then two that were eating from the feeder and off the ground where much of the seed spilled. We wanted to get some photos of them, but they only came late at night and our neighbors did not believe us because our house is in the center of a housing development, so the cam was for our both enjoyment and to provide proof we were not losing our faculties. So far, 4 deer have shown up, many rabbits, a fox and up to 4 raccoons.I have posted a few photos and videos that I hope will help you in making your own decision but after several months of off and on use I can say this KJK was definitely a good choice for us.

A Great High Resolution Camera

The ease of use and the availability of a phone app make mounting this camera and pointing it so you get the exact picture you want a breeze. It comes with a hardcopy setup/user guide, but for those that like to have electronic copies (to take with you on your phone) there is also a comprehensive PDF you can download that covers the setup & features of the camera. So, for you backpackers one less item to pack & carry!I configured the camera in my home office and tested all of the features - everything worked as advertised. I then set everything up so when I arrived at my campsite to go hiking the only thing I need to do is mount the camera, switch the camera to on and adjust the camera so it sees exactly the area I want covered. Motion detection is great as it will allow the camera to capture exactly what is important to you.I purchase two 128 GB SD Cards and they worked great with the camera. Based on the average size of the photos at 84MP the photos were just under 5 MB per. With the included 64 GB SD Card that's roughly 12,800 photos (double that for the 128 GB SD CARD). Videos, based on my testing at 8K, used just under 30 MB so with my 128 GB SD Card I set the video capture to 15 seconds, 5 second min gap for each new motion detection. Using those numbers I can get just over 4400 15 second video clips @ 8K.Obviously you need to do a little testing at each capture site when using motion detection to prevent false triggering, but the camera also provides sensitivity adjustment (low, med, high). Coupled with the 100' 130degree field of view I can keep a watch over my campsite while I'm out hiking the trails.

It is the easiest trail cam I've tried!

I have tried three other trail cameras and have been really disappointed. The first one had water intrusion and died. The second one just quit working, and the third one was a Remington, but so hard to set up and no app to see what you were recording so it was just a frustrating time waster despite the name brand.I researched, and read reviews, for weeks before deciding on this KDK228 and I am very glad I picked it because it works great. It is very easy to set up, and use, because it comes with an excellent owner’s manual, that explains absolutely everything, and a great app which makes picking your settings very easy if you don’t want to do it on the camera itself. The screen on the camera is small and I have older eyes so appreciate the fact I can use the camera app to adjust my settings. It comes with a 64gb sd card and batteries. Two less things to worry about buying! It makes it ready to use right out of the box.I use a power cord because I use it on my property within reach of a power source. The company is smart enough to put the exact requirement for the power supply you need to purchase in the details of this camera. It is very important because these cords come with many different volts and tip sizes and just guessing is going to cause someone a lot of grief and returning items to Amazon (I did it myself with other cameras). I use a 6V 1.5A Power Supply 3.5mm x 1.35mm Mains AC-DC 9W Adapter as the description suggests. The app works flawlessly, and always connects, which is a first for a trail cam app for me. The app makes it fun because the range is very good so you can see what your camera is looking at all the time and you have the capability to record whenever you want from the app. Another nice feature about recording from the app is that the video goes to straight your phone’s photo gallery rather than the SD card so you can see it, and use it, immediately.I have never been happy with the mounting bases that come with these cameras, and unfortunately the one that comes with this one is no different. It’s the usual weird large three screw mount that has to be attached to something. I purchased a Smatree Flexible Jaws Flex Clamp Mount Gooseneck Extension and use it instead. I can attach it to anything. My favorite way to use it is attaching it to a garden shovel because I can place it anywhere I can put the shovel in the ground.I’m really glad I finally found a trail cam that is fun to use and reliable. I’ve suggested this set up to several of my friends and they all love it as much as I do.

Nice trail cam

So far it has worked as expected.Set up was pretty easy. Some of the nomenclature used by the manufacturer was not the clearest but I figured it out.So far I have caught a bird seed thief. I was able to connect the feeder more securely and the Raccoon quit coming around. Then just this week a dead deer showed up in the creek across from the house and I set it up to see what happens. I was hoping for vultures and ravens but after the first day of filming they never came back. But, the snapping turtles were great to watch. And, one of the first creatures to attack the carcass was the dangerous and ubiquitous Tiger Swallowtail. I set up the camera to take a photo every minute and it performed flawlessly. The only issue I have had is after putting the SD card it into the computer it says there is something wrong, to scan and fix, but after fixing it says nothing is wrong so all is good. I ain't a computer person so I have no idea.Except for the SD card issue, and some glitches that are probably operator error, this is pretty darn good, especially at this price.

Great for monitoring backyard wildlife

We bought this to solve mystery on who is digging up our backyard. With this camera we found out that we had opossums and couple families of raccoons partying our backyard every night. We are now checking videos every morning with excitement. The picture quality is good in even dark night. As we were constantly checking the camera, it was running out batteries fast. Luckily it is possible to connect a power supply to the camera so you don’t need run it with batteries.Set up is pretty straightforward with the phone app.

"Somebody" tells you what's happening while you asleep or away

Not only is the product great and helpful, but also customer service is excellent.Despite the fact that it is easy to set up, I made a mistake setting up the camera for movies. Kind of frustrated I wrote my issue to customer service and received in short time a detailed step by step instruction. And it worked!I put it on different locations around the house. I was always interested in the animals which I don't see while I sleep.I can recommend the product and company. Well designed and I had it in all weather out there.Movie quality is very good (I did not take pictures)

Trail camera

About every 2 days I have to go to the camera and "turn it on" - it doesn't stay on. Eh. We are using it to ID a yard pest and it helped with that. It just would be nice if it stayed on. You can't access away from your WIFI - so no remote access. Overall - it's OK but for the price should be better. The pictures are grainy - but you can see what's in it. The night vision works ok as does the basic motion detection. I recommend paying a bit more for one that will work and can be accessed remotely.
